Siemens Now Offers Complete PSA Menu For Prostate Cancer Testing

0

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics has received CE-marking in Europe for the ADVIA Centaur® free PSA test, completing a full menu of tests that aid in prostate cancer detection and management.

The assays include prostate-specific antigen (PSA), complexed PSA (cPSA) and free PSA (fPSA), all available on both the Siemens ADVIA Centaur and the ADVIA Centaur XP® System. The new fPSA test, when used with the PSA test to calculate the percent free PSA value, can aid in discriminating between prostate cancer and benign prostatic disease which may help reduce unnecessary biopsies for patients.

Siemens new free PSA test is intended to be used in conjunction with the ADVIA Centaur PSA test to determine the percent free PSA value in men aged 50 years or older with total PSA values between 4 and 10 ng/mL and digital rectal exam (DRE) results non-suspicious for cancer. The percent free PSA value can be used to help discriminate between prostate cancer and benign prostatic disease. Prostate biopsy is required for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

“Providing complete PSA diagnostic testing on one system offers a real advantage to both patients and laboratories,” said David Hickey, Executive Vice President, Central Laboratory and Global Research and Development, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “Laboratories have more diagnostic options for their patients, which can enhance quality of care. At the same time, tests can be run more efficiently and cost effectively on a single instrument.”

The ADVIA Centaur free PSA assay allows laboratory professionals to consolidate PSA testing on a fully-automated, high-throughput immunoassay system. The comprehensive ADVIA Centaur PSA menu also includes cPSA, an alternative frontline test to aid in the detection of prostate cancer. Complexed PSA is a test that offers the advantage of higher specificity than total PSA as an aid in prostate cancer detection and management.1,2

The ADVIA Centaur free PSA assay is now available for sale on the ADVIA Centaur and Centaur XP® systems in Europe and Australia. For more information about Siemens portfolio of PSA prostate cancer detection assays, visit here.
